Breathing’s Important

Breathing is kind of important, it’s this amazing skill that every living thing in the world has learned to do as part of a survival instinct.  When babies are born, we slap them on the rear not to give them an indication of more abuse both literal and metaphorical to come.  No we slap them because the immediate instinctive response is for them to breath in that first bit of oxygen under their own power.  The body is an amazing, it functions so well but at the same time an imbalance can throw everything out of wack.
These last couple of days have been some of the hardest for me health-wise that I’ve experienced in a long time.  In truth, I probably wasn’tbordering on death and I probably wasn’t anything near critical…but it did scare me a bit.  Beginning Wednesday, a cold that I’d been fighting moved into my chest.  As the day passed on, my bronchial tubes closed more and more tightly.  I felt that I was sucking air through a straw but couldn’t fill up more than a soda can’s worth of air.  I spent the night sleep for an hour then coughing to clear my lungs.  Today, as I got a hold of the right medicine and was able to use some hot showers to open up my lungs.  My breathing came back.  I’m not quite there yet, but I’m getting there as far as my lung capacity.

I share this not to ask for your sympathy, in fact I don’t really need or want it.  I share it with you, because it some learned knowledge that is worth sharing.   No matter how hard I tried to make my lungs work, they fought me.  No matter how much I wished for my lungs to simply open up and function the way they should, they didn’t.  Life is a gift.  I couldn’t force it to work, I just had to ride the wave and do the best I could.  I could pray and I could hope, but all I could do is be patient.

So parting words for this entry is this: there are some breaths that you can’t force.  However, you can take a moment or two and breathe mentally.  Allow yourself the short break you need to recover from life’s troubles and difficulties.  Be patient and breath, wait the problems out.   Ride the wave in life, have faith, and you’ll get there.  How’s that for a pick-me-up.

Dave!!! It’s Janelle! I found you on Kevin’s website.
By the way, I love to breathe…breathe normally that is. Whenever I get sick I remember the blessing of breathing…thank goodness for the air, too!
